Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring post-delivery in his spell on Saturday.

The England team reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "during the day".

The series decider in this Ashes battle at the SCG gets underway at the end of the week.

The English side has previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman among just a trio of English batsmen to reach double figures.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he returned the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he sent down a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission of the third.
