Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Seeks to Resolve the Series' Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an original film. Rather, the recent movie from the JuJutsu Kaisen action franchise acts as a recap of the anime's second season combined with the opening installments of its next season, which kicks off the Culling Games narrative from the original manga. This makes Execution, which recently received a latest teaser, the first way to watch the beginning of the forthcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The feature launches in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Game arc, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the show and is assigned by jujutsu higher-ups to execute his classmate Yuji Itadori. Their long-awaited clash takes place for the very first time on the big screen, and if the animators at Mappa have something as special as episodes 40 and 41 prepared for audiences this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the present that everyone has hoped for.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"Thunderclap" from season two is frequently praised as a top-tier scene in anime history, notwithstanding all the controversy in 2023 when the series first premiered. It was claimed that the creators were suffering from tight schedules to the point, and the final version that premiered at the time was unfinished and allegedly not what the artists first envisioned.

The Intense Confrontation

The sequence showcases a heavily anticipated fight between two strong jujutsu users, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It includes innovative art style, superb cinematography, and thrilling combat. A follow-up physical media version gave the animators a chance to add additional scenes to enhance the fight. So it seemed possible Execution could refine the sequence additionally. However, viewing the latest preview, it's difficult to determine if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a disappointment if it didn't, because a sequence that grand has to be experienced on the largest display with the best presentation possible.

Season Two Success

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become 2024's anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were aired consecutively, it was the focus of attention for multiple weeks in the anime community. Viewers had heard of the problems with the production, which made them appreciate what they witnessed even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the home release, made available on March 18, would include new footage to the fight or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were thrilled to see just that, alongside reshades, smoother movement, and revised visual style.

The Feature's Advantage

But the Blu-ray can only improve what has initially broadcast in the television version, whereas the movie has the chance to fully realize the scene with further changes and new animations entirely.

A Crowning Achievement

Currently, these episodes represent the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by Mappa, particularly given the controversy they faced at the time. It's garnered the attention of viewers all over the planet, and the Culling Games is one of the most anticipated anime arcs of the coming year. If Mappa wants to kick off the year perfectly, revisit the anime's greatest sequence once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've seen yet.
