Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
