Pep Guardiola Voices Remorse Over Camera Operator Incident Following Defeat to Newcastle

Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" following a confrontation with a TV crew member subsequent to Manchester City's loss at Newcastle this past weekend.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and engaged in intense talks with the referee, Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I said sorry," the manager remarked. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, looking back. It's not acceptable. I immediately apologized to the cameraman. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I’m not a perfect person, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why I support my squad is clear – because from my experience to clinch the title we have to do 100 points, high nineties, or we fall short."

City's Position and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss of the season. "Four defeats in twelve matches means we must do better," he conceded. "Technically, we can to win everything."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, Guardiola answered: "You are an experienced journalist, have you ever heard me about the quadruple in December during our historic run? No."

Exchange with Bruno

On the subject of his talk with the Newcastle player, the coach explained: "We have known Bruno a long time and post-match, home or away, we converse. Our paths always cross and I always have a good relationship. I love it. I’m an emotional guy, I like discussing and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind if an opposition manager spoke to his players immediately after a game. "Not if you talk with respect like I always have done, it's fine," he noted, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved throughout the match, constantly. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

The team felt aggrieved that Barrott or the VAR denied a spot-kick for a Fabian Schär challenge against Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Subsequent images indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Next Big Match

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "It’s quite good, showing we compete annually," he commented.

The club has ten points after four games in the group, while Leverkusen have five.
