The English Team to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will commence their Euro 2028 adventure at the Etihad Stadium, on the condition that they attain the relatively straightforward passage for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an England men’s game since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to welcome the Three Lions for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win Group B, their knockout stage opener would take place at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Opening and Rally

The championship was launched at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday night. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they approached the location by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for the Israeli team to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Signs were displayed with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will involve the Welsh team if they make it.

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a start time at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to family audiences and help reach a more diverse set of fans.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the qualification process; two reserved places will be reserved for any that miss out on the tournament through the standard process.

Venues and Elimination Phase

Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena complete the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight held at every host’s main arena.

The draw for the qualifiers will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a championship for the supporters and a festival of everything we love about the football – its fervor and capacity to unite individuals.”

In excess of three million admissions, a all-time high for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be released to attendees.
