Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not Real Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Increase Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed goalkeeper Vicario were informed later "they cannot be true Tottenham fans" by boss Frank.

Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth Premier League home defeat of the year.

However the primary talking point was the visitors' second goal when the keeper gave away possession far outside his box.

The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.

However, instead of booting it into touch, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.

King laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and again at full-time.

One of those jeering sessions really irritated the manager.

"I heard a few of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager stated about the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering after the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are with one another going forward."

Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second period performance.

Former Premier League keeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "totally preventable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' frustration," Hart continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He's a great team player, he is a true leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

He said following the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"That score was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for it," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He stated receiving jeers "comes with the game".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "We can't be influenced by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to stay increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in composure and calmness to reverse outcomes. Today is a poor loss and it is tough to accept."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the second most distant Premier League score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly too came on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.

Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the area for ages," he said.

"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the goal line. When not one of them covered the goal, my interest lit up somewhat.

"Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little extra time. Then it was all about trying to make the right contact and place it towards goal. I felt a positive feeling, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

While Vicario's mistake dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.

The match was their 10th home defeat of the year in the league, a joint club statistic along with 1994 and 2003.

They still have home games against the manager's former club Brentford and title holders the Reds to play prior to the end of the year.

Just a single of those victories have come after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," stated Frank.

"During in a poor run, everything appears to go against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"This result puts us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Every game has a single story, today we were defeated in the early stages.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck an aspect we can utilize to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are recording 9.5 shots and 3.2 shots on target per match in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a single campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He must accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He has accepted a high profile job at a major team with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
