Vince Zampella, the mind behind the wildly popular franchise Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in California aged 55.

His passing was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The celebrated game designer lost his life when his car crashed and burst into flames on a highway in LA on Sunday morning, as reported by.

"This is a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, his loved ones, and all those touched by his legacy," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts said.
